Econ 101: Arkansas Starts Fiscal Year In The Black

It may be a few days old now, but this hasn’t gotten near enough press in my opinion.

Despite a tumultuous economy nationwide, Arkansas is faring well.  Over the past 12 months, Governor Mike Beebe made two budget cuts, slashing more than $200 million, but only had to use a portion of the $40 million “rainy day fund.”  Beebe is pleased that Arkansas was one of only four states in the country to end the fiscal year in the black.

Sure, it would be great if we’d gotten to this point without budget cuts or tapping the rainy-day fund, but beggars and choosers and all that, right?  Someone should forward this link to Jim Keet so he can get started on trying to “blame” the Obama/Pelosi/Beebe triumvirate for it.
